Two phenomena emerged in 2015 that twisted reality: the first was that Berenstien bears was in fact Berenstain bears and the other was CRITTÉ, a synthpop band from Seattle. The band's name is a combination of the Spanish words criatura (creature) and grité (Shout/Yell). Based on characters from our front man and illustrator's own comic universe, CRITTÉ is adventurous musical and visual exploration of emotions.

  • 44 page color comic made special for the Stuart's Cove EP Release. Written and drawn by Bradley Oliver Wilkinson, dedicated to his brother Stuart Wilkinson who passed away April 14th 2011. It is meant to be read along with the title track, Start's Cove. The comic beings with a sea of noise heard on the cassette, that represents the confusion and fear of mortality and death. The first scene of the comic shows our initial character, Captain Arpeggio, sinking in a boat to his demise. We enter the next phase of the song and story that exposes the emotional baggage we carry by portraying a tugboat and a barge our second character has to wrench along her, this character is named Critté. Captain Arpeggio was Critté's brother. Hence the lyrics, "pushing on through, the dark cold water, propelling waves, that hit the attached barge," "that's full of hope and memories you say you can't let go," "will you drown? submerged in sound? with those haunted hounds?" The haunted hounds represent the insecurities and problems that were not laid to rest before his death.
The next scene cuts to Critté and her borzoi on a deserted island where the tugboat is shipwrecked. This is meant to show isolation, and contemplation. Music and art are an outlet. It keeps one busy and focused on areas that are hard for an artist to process. The end of the song just repeats “it’s alright,” which in the comic is represented by a feeling of assurance of finding a lost momento left by the characters recently deceased brother. The soothing sounds of the sea at the end, along with the harmonica and acoustic guitar gives a calm feeling of peace as you finish the end of the comic.
